Three performing personalities, three musical worlds and one shared question: how do sound, performer and concert space become a single musical experience?
Accordion Mutation
At the featured artists’ concert of the 10th Anniversary National Accordion Festival, Claudio Jacomucci, Roman Pechmann and Mihály Demeniv reveal the many faces of the accordion. A shared idea runs through the evening: how sound is born within the instrument, how it is shaped by the performer, and how the concert hall itself becomes part of the musical experience.
The accordion has an especially sensitive relationship with the space around it. The movement of air, dynamic nuance, resonance and the instrument’s rich palette of timbres create a different kind of acoustic presence in every performance. Liszt’s musical legacy, the subtly shifting colours of Gyula Bánkövi, Roman Pechmann’s contemporary repertoire and Claudio Jacomucci’s experimental artistic world reveal new possibilities of the same instrument.
In Claudio Jacomucci’s Accordion Mutation project, this idea moves into another dimension. In Le Città Invisibili, the sound of the artist’s self-designed microtonal and prepared accordion is also projected through a quadraphonic system. Sound moves beyond the immediate surroundings of the instrument, reaches the audience from different directions, and the concert space itself becomes an active part of the composition.

The collaboration aims to make the natural character of the instrument, the richness of its timbre and the finest details of the musical space perceptible with the greatest possible sensitivity.
The arc of the evening gradually leads from tradition to experimentation, from acoustic presence to the expanded spatial perception of sound. The anniversary concert looks both to the traditions of the accordion and to its possible future.
